Frogging leads to joy

I'm making a Traveling Woman shawl for a wedding present for a friend, or part of the wedding present, and I frogged it last week  because I messed up with the lace.  This actually turned out to be a good thing,  since the yarn is thicker then the pattern really calls for (but who can resist alpaca blends really),  I restarted on needles one size up and the yarn overs look so much better now.  Only picture is on rav, since well a purple-pink triangle is less then interesting looking.  There was this whole feeling of "shit I have to frog" but ended up being a rather good thing.

My hoodie is almost finished but damnit, need more yarn again.  The pattern said 900grams for my size, I'm on 950 and still its not enough.  Sick to death of grey too.

I also finally tackled some of my writer's block and finished my latest story, but well I know it's silly, but I hate it when some people get a zillion comments and I get one or none. It makes me feel invisible,  but mentioning it even feels like comment whoring.  Yeah, its not Cousie stuff,  it's not DA 2 (just not feeling the love for DA2).

This thing needs a music or podcast or etc, not just a music button.

AO3

I decided two things recently.  The first is that since I added more friends, I should actually start posting here.  The second is that ff.net has been giving me a hint by giving page errors every time I try to post lately, which means I should try posting on A03 instead.   So far the posting interface for AO3 is nice even though I haven' figure out about file uploads for it yet.   This is okay really, I've had a lot of formating problems with uploads to ff.net.    Gee I sound like someone how is an experienced fic author, rather then someone who's written a handful or so of Dalish-centric Dragon Age fics.

archiveofourown.org/users/spirit_dog/pseuds/spirit_dog  for my AO3.

Fanfic: Care No More.

For the sake of my sanity, since its fairly long and LJ is being a bit of a pain with formatting, I'm just linking to ff.net.
It always bothered me in Dragon Age, that the shriek attack was sort of glanced over, even though I would think it would be an emotionally traumatizing event for the Dalish PC and unnerving for the rest of the camp.  Thankfully, we have fanfiction to flesh out the details since not every little detail can be put into a video game.
Rated T for death talk, and can be found here  on fanfiction.net

I'm going to use this as a bit of author's notes as well:
I like the idea of Alistair being more confidant, or at least more together then he is often portrayed,  but well  I get the feeling that he has a little elf whispering in his ear helping him boost his confidence behind the scenes.   This was also really difficult for me to write, mostly due to the heavy emotions involved, and tbh it is a little hard for me to see Reshalya in that much pain.

Fanfic: Evening in the Life of

Author's Note:  This is one of the first fics that I ever wrote, so it is a bit rough in places, and I don't feel like I captured the characters voices as well as I should have, but this is a learning process after all.

Title: Evening in the Life of
Rating: M/NSFW for sex. Nothing dark or angsty here though.
Wordcount: 1714
Summary: Just a sweet and tender evening in an inn. A day in the lift of type peice.

Stories, fanfiction, and the like.

Last fall I started playing Dragon Age: Origins, and quickly fell in love.  What I fell in love with was one of the characters, Alistair --  a sweet, goofy, honorable warrior.  In order to sate my obsession, I started writing fanfiction based on him and my character.  Eventually I'll post all of the pieces I'm happy with or mostly happy with on ff.net or AOO to get more eyeballs, for now I'm going to go through my archive and start posting them here as well as LJ entries.   The stories are currently only posted over on swooping_is_bad but they're just some of many mahariel tagged entries, and they are linked in my LJ memories right now. Some of them are adult in nature and I will tag them as such.  My hope also is to fix the formatting when I post them here.

About reposting my stories elsewhere: If you want to please ask. Most likely the answer is yes as long as they're properly attributed to myself as Spirit Dog.  If you want to just link, please link away!

Slight ramblings on WoW, politics and privacy.

I keep on thinking of posting here, and then I  end up getting busy with some sundry household task or playing World of Warcraft a bit more then is probably healthy[1].  I love my guild in WoW, my guild drives me nuts sometimes, but I love my guild.  We're doing a tour of old raid instances as well as a lot of ZA while we wait for Wrath, which has been a lot of fun and has been relaxing for me as a raid leader.

Voting:   Did it already since I live overseas and have to vote really suprisingly early.  The election has essentially been over for me for a month and a half and as much as I really want Obama to win, I'm getting fairly burned out of politics.  Nevertheless, I am planning on watching Obama on the Daily Show after I get home from work tonight if I have time before the afore mentioned Zul'Aman.

As far as privacy goes. I've been debating about commenting on this on my own journal or not.  I would look  at nakeisha.livejournal.com/478324.html for relevant information.  I don't mind my LJ being googable, I get something in return for that.  I do mind it being on FH in any way without my permssion, and as such I've made it essentially unsearchable.   I keep on debating with myself how much I should post my experiances with FH that hasn't been said otherplaces, and there just doesn't seem much more I can add besides avoid it.   Go play warcraft and watch the Daily Show instead.  May yourself a nice meal, read a book, etc.

Rome: The First Thousand Years by Indro Montanelli

A friend of mine recomended to me I read this book a while back, and well I'm passing that along.  Mr. Montanelli's writing style is wonderfully witty but not overly verbose.   The book starts out with a description of ancient Roman schools, and states this about Roman school children, "We do know with certainty however that they had an easier time than those of to-day. They already knew Latin."

The English translation, the original is in Italian,  is a little under 400 pages in total with the index, which is blessedly short compaired with many books written in the last few years by writers being paid for by the word.  It does however hold a remarkable ammount of information despite its length, and does give a remarkable picture of the first thousand years of the city of Rome.  I personally find it lovely that Mr. Montanelli does discuss the earlier Roman kingdom, before it became a republic or an empire - something that is severly lacking from most histories of the city.

Batman, The Dark Knight

The new Batman movie open here tonight at midnight, and me and the SO went and saw it at the 0:02 show.  It was amazing, I'm not going to be mean and spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet, so I'll write about the plot later.. probably a good bit later.  I saw the movie in a full theater that seats almost 1000 people, and it was the first time in a long time where the audiance has actually clapped when an actor comes on screen for the first time in a movie, or at the end of it.  It was just that good. Dark, gritty, wonderful.  Now go see it so we can chat about it!
